Welcome to Honor Leather

We are husband-wife team Tony and Meg striving to produce durable and beautiful hand-stitched leather goods with a commitment to minimal environmental impact.

Tony is a leather craftsman and designer.
Meg is a writer and stylist.

We met in 2004 in Savannah, GA while at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Those early days were spent studying and creating art, waiting tables, inhaling the sweet smell of jasmine and taking our dogs on balmy summer night walks. After almost a decade we said goodbye to the Low Country, turned our gaze to the sunset and headed west, making Portland, Oregon our basecamp for several years.

We sold our car, fully embraced cycling life, developed a spiritual appreciation for coffee and found comfort in the soothing sounds of rain. While living in Portland, Tony launched Mustache Mohawk, a passion project named for Tony- “The guy with the mustache and the mohawk” that produced custom bags for commuter cyclists. In 2014 we once again crossed the continent- this time to settle down in Meg’s native home state of Vermont.

Vermont offered us many of the things we loved about Portland with the crucial addition of small town community. In the years that followed, we reimagined our craft, materials and goods to better align with our interests and values.

Through the course of our journey thus far a few guiding truths have revealed themselves to us: That each and every one of us bears a sacred responsibility for the health and wellbeing of this miraculous planet we are lucky to call home. That our lives are made rich by the relationships and community we nourish and that existence is more meaningful when we own less and when our fewer possessions are durable, beautiful, environmentally responsible and offer us a story of connection.

Thank you for your interest, we would love to get to know you too!

Our Commitment to the Trees

In the interest of not contributing to deforestation (due to the harvesting of certain bark for vegetable tanning processes) we pledge to commit a portion of our annual profits to reforestation projects that focus on the planting of Quebracho trees and encourage other leather makers who work with veg tanned leather to join us and consider supporting respective reforestation efforts as well. Replenishing what is used in a responsible manner ensures the sustainability of this material and helps safeguard the health of life sustaining forests.

  • Our values are to share in our success. We’re getting settled into our new studio and aim to have a profit sharing model in place in Fall 2022.

  • We will be working towards donating a portion of our annual revenues to organizations that support the reforestation of Quebracho trees. We are currently looking to find a highly honorable partner for this goal. If you know of any organizations, please contact us!

  • Community is what makes our work worth doing. Honor Leather seeks to use business as a means for strengthening community bonds with our customers and neighbors. We believe that honoring our connection to each other and the natural world provides the framework for meaningful creation and benefits us all.

Every Honor piece has a history and a future. Our leathergoods are made with deep respect for the previous life of each hide and gratitude for the opportunity to highlight the beauty and unique qualities inherent to vegetable tanned leather. Each piece will evolve with age and wear, developing a rich character all of its own.
